Summary
The Engineering Manager position is an opportunity to manage the creation of our new shipping-container-scale Biochar and CHP product line. The development process is funded by the California Energy Commission and will be a high-visibility demonstration project for solutions to the Sierra forestry crisis. Our solution converts this woody waste problem into useful electricity, heat, and biochar, with the biochar entered into soil for carbon sequestration and improved plant productivity.
Primary Responsibilities
- Understand grant deliverables including objectives, policy requirements, scope of work, APL team, external grant partners, grant schedule and budgets.
- Create and maintain control documents and meeting processes to manage schedules, deliverables, and grant reporting.
- Drive the internal assessment of project status and strategy to overcome obstacles and complete project successfully.
- Drive cadence of physical hardware building and assembly integration into a shipping container. Will include daily standup meetings, weekly reports and status updates, etc.

- Oversee and support report writing activities of other team members.
- Oversee specification and procurement of auxiliary OTS components.
- Generally, make things happen by organizing people, stuff and information, to a successful outcome.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience in a related Project/Product Manager function.
- Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Must have excellent organizational and scheduling skills.
- Must be able to thrive in an ambiguous and under-resourced startup environment, and be enthusiastic about solving hard problems in physical thermo-chemical-mechanical hardware.
- Must be proficient in the Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, as well as Google Docs/Drive and CAD environments.
